CDK Global (“CDK”) Data Breach Investigation

CDK Global (“CDK”) is an automobile dealership software solutions company. According to Data Breach Today, CDK’s system maintains records and sensitive data for an estimated 15,000 automobile dealerships in the U.S. and Canada. Reportedly, on June 18th, CDK took down its systems in response to a cyberattack. On June 19th, CDK brought their systems back up only to experience a second cyberattack. It’s been reported that a group of hackers claimed responsibility and has demanded tens of millions of dollars in ransom to end to the hack; it’s been reported that CDK will pay. The cyberattack created major disruptions at affected dealerships, and it’s believed the cyberattack may have compromised personally identifiable information (“PII”) of dealerships’ employees and may have also included dealership customers.
