Environmental Auditing

The Firm performs environmental health & safety (EHS) audits as one of its premier services.  Its attorneys and professionals are uniquely educated and experienced to provide efficient,  high quality audits at a reasonable cost.  Our goal is to add significant value to our clients’ programs.  Most of our audit work entails environmental multi-media audits or health & safety audits.  However, we often perform single media audits, combined EHS audits, DOT/hazardous materials transportation (HMT) audits, audit EHS/HMT regulatory requirements across a corporate-wide program or several plant locations, and review environmental or EHS management systems.

We often can combine all of these into a fully integrated, comprehensive EHS/HMT compliance and management systems audit.  To maximize program effectiveness and reliability, we also recommend auditing the corrective action process and root cause identification (to prevent recurrent findings) and the self-assessment process (to ensure regulatory understanding and risk identification) to get the most from the audit process, and to ensure the most significant continuing improvements.

Some of our clients have embraced our cutting-edge risk-based auditing approach.  Risk-based auditing allows an auditor to identify risk priorities and systemic gaps without ignoring isolated non-compliance concerns.  In turn, the company can then focus its corrective actions to reduce real risk, improve the EHS management system, and prevent the reoccurrence of those risks most consequential to employee safety, the environment, and the business.

We have audited hundreds of industrial facilities ranging from those in the automotive, chemical, pharmaceutical, utility, paper, waste recycling and disposal, foundries, electronics and printed circuit boards, and transportation industries to those in the food, beverage, research and development, and consumer products businesses.  Many of these audits have been within the United States where we have performed audits in nearly every state many times over.  In addition, the Firm has extensive international EHS auditing experience as well having audited in over 30 countries.  More is provided about our international services below.

Finally, we also audit client suppliers when requested.  These audits arise when clients recognize that their suppliers can affect their EHS reputations.  Similarly, we often audit waste disposal and recycling sites and activities as a means to inform about and protect our clients’ long-term liability.
